People are your partners: One Day Equals

In the wake of Prop 8, Jess and Joe and a hot male-model friend of theirs were ticked off. But they realized that “their peers’ and their own inaction wasn’t about indifference but rather frustration at the lack of a concrete, simple way to make a difference.

So they created One Day Equals to give people in New York state an outlet for their shared frustration:

April 28th is Empire State Pride Agenda’s Equality & Justice Day. Thousands of New Yorkers will travel to Albany to meet one-on-one with their lawmakers. We are mere votes away from true justice and equality for the LGBT community in New York State. This is your chance to tell your elected representatives, face-to-face, why equality is important to you and the people you love.

It’s built on the premise that one day can make a difference, and that one day for the issue of same-sex marriage in New York state is April 28th. They’re equating this day with famous single-day events from history, like storming the Bastille or the Boston Tea Party:

First, I admire that they took initiative rather than just sitting around complaining. And second, even more importantly, I love that they’re providing a big platform for everyone else to share in the initiative and create a strong show of support for lawmakers in Albany.

(And they even got a mention on Perez Hilton!)

Good luck, guys. See you in Albany.
