‘Save Chuck’ latest in campaigns to rescue favorite shows – CNN.com

Posted by pak on April 30, 2009

" Yet still others manage to serve as a rallying point for fans and critics alike who have a single, collective message for the networks: SAVE OUR SHOW! This season, a swirl of programs have generated the "will they or won't they" buzz, including ABC's "Better Off Ted," "Castle" and "Samantha Who?"; CBS' "Without a Trace" and "Eleventh Hour"; and Fox's "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" and "Dollhouse.""

Beautiful and inspiring video of Emily Haines escaping to Buenos Aires to write Metric’s new album (which I downloaded last week and it’s super; It was only $6.99 on Amazon… take advantage of that tiered pricing before it goes up).

The Chex Pistols and Goudacris….amazing

Another.fare.hike.

Posted by NakedNY on April 30, 2009

I can’t believe this. I just read that there may be ANOTHER fare hike, on top of the doomsday one of $103 (when does that start, by the way?). It makes me want to a) become a freelancer so I don’t have to worry about commuting (which I’m just not going to do); or more realistically b) move closer to work. That I’m even considering that is just ridiculous. One of the commenters on the Gothamist post had some interesting alternative ideas to raising the fare:

just jump the price to 3 dollars, run subways based on every 10 minutes… (no worries about delays then either)…

make simple avenue and cross town bus routes (not more cross overs and weird routes (just north, south, east and west) [ie. make people transfer!]

increase fines for littering, smoking, and arrest the pan handlers (if we’re paying premiums then we shouldnt be troubled for a dollar or a quarter).

put in place a music card system – ie. charge the people that want to play on the subways or on the platforms a small fee!

add beer carts on all express stops lower then 57th street M-F 4-7pm (it works great for Penn station)

Charge more for the subway ads (I’m sick of low budget ads – for lawyers or doctors), change the large paper ads for TVs (if cabbies can do it so can you!)

allow moms with strollers on buses without taking the kids out (that will also help increase ridership on the UES/UWS)

I agree on all, except the first one (10 minutes between trains would be a disaster along the 6 and L lines during rush hour). Comment 37 (private, non-government auditing before fare hikes are approved) is a great idea too, but that doesn’t sound very realistic. MTA, are you listening? Probably not. This entire system has to be reinvented, I think. My friend Laura is going to school for urban planning design this fall… an open plea to her: please.fix.shit.like.this. I know you can.
