where have all the good ad guys gone?

Into the greeting card business, apparently.

It makes sense. It’s the fun part of making a great print ad — stop ‘em with the visual, knock off their socks with a clever line. And as an added bonus, you don’t have to worry about whether your client will buy your brilliance.

Here are three birthday cards from three different high-caliber ex-agency creative types who have gone into business for themselves.

1) Bald Guy Greetings (via Jane)

happy birthday i guess

2) Seltzer Goods (I used to work with the founder, Brian, and think he’s a stand up guy.)

stache bday card

3) Someecards (The founders, Brook and Duncan, get around, I guess: Nancy knows them, Jane knows them, and I used to work with them when they were at TribalDDB.)

that totally makes sense! i had been seeing a lot of ads that used a greeting card concept, so this seems like a natural next step.

here’s one that i saw - it’s an “i’m sorry” card to BMW owners from Volkswagon. and it has a cat.

    Thanks Naked.

I’d write something funny here, but I have to save my funny stuff for the greeting cards.

    The competition is getting stiff.

By the way, Someecards, I’m a fan.

    Bald, but fully dressed,
