june’s aggregations
I thought I’d take a little dip into the aggregator stream, see if there was anything of interest in there over the last month or so. (If you don’t know what the aggregator is, have a look at Noah’s overview of the site.) The first observation is that the aggregator is both a blessing and a curse: There’s a lot interesting stuff… But there’s A LOT of it. And the flood never stops.
So this is far from comprehensive, and there’s not much in the way of insight… But anyway. Here’s a look at some of what we aggregated during the month of June:
1) Paul Potts: MT put us on to his amazing, touching first performance on Britain’s Got Talent, and like everyone else in the known universe, we were hooked. We watched through to his £1 million recording contract, trying to ignore all the discouraging rumors of his professional opera training.
- Joe: did she call him a lump of coal?
- Joe: Paul Potts – national healthcare doesn’t extend to dentistry does it?
- BGT FINAL -Paul Potts high quality video/sound (YouTube)
- pak: apparently, paul potts won “britain’s got talent”!!
- Paul Potts wins ‘Britain’s got Talent’ – and bags himself a record contract (Daily Mail). Potts, meanwhile, who is married to his wife of four years, Julie – whom he met in an internet chat room – first sang opera eight years ago at a karaoke competition.
- ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ winner Potts signs £1million record deal (Daily Mail)
- Classical singer Potts wins (The Sun). Last week The Sun was swamped with calls from furious readers after it emerged Paul is a trained opera singer who has been coached by Pavarotti
2) Current tech. We’re all about the twitter, and all those other fancy gadgets kids nowadays are playing with on the Interweb.
- ‘omg my mom joined facebook!!’ (New York Times). “Where will my future progeny hide from me? Will technology change so I don’t understand it or will kids …”
- leila: is it lame that reading your twitters makes me homesick for you all?
- Sign of the times (Terry Heaton’s PoMo Blog). I wrote “3pm” in an Outlook email this morning, and the spell checker asked me if I meant “MP3.”
- Digital – Who Blogs? (AdAge)
- 17 Marketing Related Uses for Twitter (and counting) (Living Light Bulbs)
- neal: i have removed twittering from my mobile device. i am delighted and decidedly less vibrated than before.
- The problem of verticals (Virtual Economics). “Lesson one: a social network that lets people express multiple identities in multiple ways is almost always going to dominate …”
- “comScore Widget Metrix” Service Launched to Track Widget Usage Across the Web (comScore)
- Twattering. Twittering for busy execs
3) Nike. A few things on the great swoosh.
- Winner Take Steve (YouTube). Weird, appealing work for Nike from Wexley School for Girls
- Michael Lau x Nike Pro Figures (highsnobiety.com). Nike athlete figurines
- Fake Nike magazine for vintage running shoes (Nylon)
4) Food. Because we love to eat. Oh, and because we like to pretend to be socially conscious too. But really because we like to eat.
- A Long Line for a Shorter Wait at the Supermarket (NY Times). “A single-line, bank-style checkout system has given Whole Foods one of the fastest grocery store lines in New York.”
- What the World Eats (Time). “What’s on family dinner tables in fifteen different homes around the globe? Photographs by Peter Menzel…”
- Noah: “pizza is the national food of pitching” – Neal
- Local Food Co-Ops Go Beyond Greens (NPR). Local, conscientiously-raised is the new organic
- 5 Boroughs Ice Cream: One City, A World Of Flavors! Haha oh my goodness. am I offended? no. hungry? not sure.
- Soapsicles (Flickr). Soap in the shape of popsicles. stunning and fun to look at.
- leila: Hottest indian food i’ve ever had. Tastes like burning. Ouch.
- Zaragoza (Thrillist). Cheap and delicious Mexican food near Union Square! Who wants to go?
- johanna: Hypoglycemia kicked in. FOOD PLEASE.
- arthur: @ jo: graze…slowly pick at snacks etc.
- paul: chilean bass with broccoli. 3.5 minutes from freshdirect

You beat me to it, Pak! Love your observations
thanks! your turn next time…
I bet there will be “food” in Jul’s aggregations.
