Naked school days

A thought from our first school day... Two rules for creating web content: (1) Don't be neutral, and (2) do be honest.

It’s our version of corporate training, I guess. Yesterday, we had a whole mess of wicked smart people come in to tell us stories and perspectives about their corner of the internet — David Berkowitz from 360i, Ty Ahmad-Taylor from MTV, Scott Karp from Publishing 2.0, the guys from Thrillist, just to name a few. Overall, a challenging, interesting day. I’m still processing all the stuff we heard, trying to draw out the over-arching themes of the day. That will be fodder for future posts, I’m sure.

Until then, one of my favorite thoughts came from Peter Rojas from Engadget: When creating content for the web, don’t be neutral. Present your particular point of view in your particular niche, and defend it vigorously. And above all else, be honest.
